What Foods to Avoid if you want to Decrease your Urge to Go
rn
Sometimes we forget how things we eat can cause our bodily issues. A healthy diet is very important for those with Incontinence. But hamburgers taste so good, and margaritas can just hit the spot! We know. But if you have Incontinence you might want to avoid certain foods. Here are some foods and drinks to stay away from, or at least intake with moderation. Eating better will help your Incontinence.

Specialists have identified these specific foods and drinks that can worsen your Incontinence symptoms:
rn
Caffeinated Beverages and Foods (coffee, candy)
rn
Alcohol (that margarita!)
rn
Spicy foods (hot peppers, curries with a zip)
rn
Citrus Fruits and Juices (oranges and lemonade)
rn
Carbonated Beverages (diet coke)
rn
Milk and Milk Products
rn
Sugar or Honey
rn
Artificial Sweeteners (Splenda)
rn
These foods and drinks contain irritants that can cause the bladder muscles to spasm. These spasms can manifest the sudden urge to urinate and therefore increase your frequency of urination. Not only do these foods contain irritants, but they are caffeine and alcohol are diuretics. Diuretics are products that make your kidneys produce more urine. Even a little coffee or liquor, tea or soda will increase the amount of urine in your bladder.

But this doesn’t mean you should stop drinking! Staying hydrated with Incontinence is very important. You may still experience leakage but its nothing an adult diaper or disposable underpad can’t handle. Drink about 6-8 ounce glasses of fluid every day, otherwise if you drink less, your urine could become concentrated in your bladder and lead to irritation. If you eat these foods, make sure to intake water along with them. Don’t let Incontinence control your life. Just consume in moderation, do some kegels, sip on fluids throughout the day and stay healthy!

I have been experiencing incontinence for the past two months, also my leg has had a little pain. So I am thinking maybe it is something I could have done at the gym> I go 6 days a week. I want to try the 3 exercises to see how they work. And I will let you know the results. Thank You

Hello there!
I’m glad you could benefit from this article. A lot of women have seen great results from doing kegel exercises. You may want to visit a doctor regarding the link between you leg pain and incontinence, because they could be symptoms of other health issues. In any case, I hope the kegel exercises prove fruitful!
