Why should Valentine’s Day with incontinence be different from any other Valentine’s Day? The truth is, it’s not any different. Okay yes, the chocolates may throw off your bladder/bowel control (because of the caffeine). And okay whatever, you may not be able to share a bottle of champagne or a cocktail with your date (because of lowered ADH levels). But think of it this way: Valentine’s Day is not about chocolates, or drinks. Valentine’s Day is about romance. It is about love.

Valentine’s Day with incontinence is easy and maybe even more fun! You can create a mind blowing incontinence-friendly meal for your date. This will be insanely impressive because you will create a delicious meal without the average ingredients. Staying away from citrus, spicy foods and dairy is pretty important for maintaining incontinence. So mix it up! Bake some turkey-stuffed bell peppers or a quinoa-black bean burger. Those main dishes have a lot of fiber in them, which is great nutritional ingredient for incontinent peoples, and they’re awesome.

If you’re too lazy to cook (which many of use are) experiment with something new. Go get some Greek food (not spicy, very unique and tasty!) or try out that new Vietnamese restaurant (don’t use the hot sauce though!). Eating something light and healthy will help you manage your leaks. This will show your date that incontinence doesn’t keep you from enjoying a “classic” Valentine’s day. Instead you are doing Valentine’s day with a healthy twist.

And you know what else light, healthy meals are good for? Better sex. And you know what sex is good for? Battling incontinence!!!

According to Woman’s Day, sex burns about 150 calories every 30 minutes. If the date goes really well, you’ll have a great time and lose some weight! Weight loss alleviates pressure on your pelvic organs, and keeps your body healthy so you’ll have more control over leakage.
rn
Even if you don’t get to “home base” on Valentine’s Day:
rn
Kissing burns 68 calories per hour
rn
Making Out burns 238 calories per half-hour
rn
Giving Oral Sex burns 100 calories per half-hour
rn
Using Your Hands burns 100 calories per hour
rn
Romantic Dancing burns 103 calories per half-hour
rn
Aren’t these great forms of healthy weight loss??? Also, sex is a form of kegels. It exercises and trains your pelvic floor muscles to get stronger. Sex is like going to the gym, for your pelvic floor muscles! Train hard, get stronger!

Any form of intimacy improves your mental health and connection with your partner. Hugging, kissing, hand holding and sex releases the love hormone, oxytocin. There is consensus that oxytocin modulates fear and anxiety. Many people with incontinence suffer from depression as well. Depression can increase symptoms of incontinence because you lose the will to go out, exercise, or improve your health. So don’t avoid Valentine’s Day just because you have incontinence! The intimacy of a romantic date will help you mentally and physically.
